The Garbage & Recycling function is managed by Sundre's Operations Department; however, it contracts the Environmental 360 to provide garbage and compost pick-up services for the Town.
Did You Know...
If you dispose of the wrong materials in your green bin, the entire load for your area may be dumped into the landfill instead of being made into earth-friendly compost. This greatly increases disposal costs for the entire town and fills up our landfill.
Solid Waste relates to garbage and compost collection for
residential homes. This function is managed by the Town's Operational
Services Department; however, Environmental 360 has been contracted to
provide garbage and compost pick-up services for the Town. Mountain
View Regional Waste Management Commission operates the Transfer Station.
The Mountain View Regional Waste Management Commission was formed
in 2001 to coordinate the management and disposal of solid waste for the
municipalities within the Mountain View County area.
Inquiries may be directed to the Transfer Station at (403)
638-4306, or to MVRWMC at (403) 335-4901. The Town of Sundre does not
operate/manage the Eco-Site/Transfer Station.
Hours of Operation:

Your black cart is for your non-hazardous household waste. The black bin is meant for most things that cannot go into your compost and recycling carts.
Your waste should be bagged and securely tied when placed in the black cart.
Periodically rinse your cart with a hose to keep it clean
If your bin is full before the scheduled pick up, extra garbage bags can be purchased at the Town Office for $4.00 + GST per bag. These extra bags will be collected on the same day as the black carts.
Town of Sundre Fire Ban in Effect as of May 15, 2026
Wildfire RWF036 UPDATE 4: May 18, 2026 - 3:30 PM AS PROVIDED BY MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY
Mountain View County Continues Monitoring Wildfire Situation Near Bearberry (Northwest of Sundre) – Now Classified as “Being Held” According to Alberta Wildfire, RWF036 is now classified as being held, meaning the wildfire is not expected to grow beyond its current boundaries given existing weather conditions and available resources. Following updated mapping, the wildfire is now estimated at approximately 997 hectares in size.
Firefighters, heavy equipment operators, and night-vision equipped helicopters continue suppression efforts, including extinguishing hotspots along the north perimeter and within the interior of the fire area. Smoke may remain visible from nearby communities; however, Alberta Forestry has advised there is currently no risk to nearby communities, including those within Mountain View County. Mountain View County continues to actively monitor the situation and remains in communication with Alberta Forestry, Clearwater County, emergency management partners, and local response agencies.
Residents may continue to notice increased activity at the Sundre Airport and surrounding area as Alberta Forestry uses the airport as a staging and operational base for wildfire suppression efforts. Increased helicopter, aircraft, emergency personnel, and support activity may continue while crews work toward fully extinguishing the wildfire.
Due to the wildfire’s proximity to Highway 40 (Forestry Trunk Road), portions of the highway remain closed. Residents and visitors are reminded to avoid the area, obey all road closures, and give aircraft and emergency crews space to operate safely, particularly near lakes and rivers where aircraft may be scooping water.
