Town of Sundre and Mountain View County have issued complete fire bans, effective immediately (May 15, 2026)
Wildfire RWF036 UPDATE 3: May 15, 2026 - 4:15 PM AS PROVIDED BY MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY
Clearwater County has declared a State of Local Emergency (SOLE) in response to the ongoing wildfire situation within their municipality. This declaration provides Clearwater County with additional authorities and flexibility to support wildfire response operations and emergency preparedness efforts, specifically due to the road closures that have been necessary to facilitate ongoing fire suppression efforts.
At this time, the wildfire remains within Clearwater County and the Forest Protection Area managed by Alberta Forestry. Through ongoing discussions with Alberta Forestry and neighbouring municipalities, Mountain View County has been advised there is currently no immediate risk to Mountain View County residents or communities, and no additional actions are required within Mountain View County at this time.
As Mountain View County is not currently being impacted by the wildfire, the County has not declared a State of Local Emergency and Mountain View County residents are not being asked to evacuate.
Residents may also notice increased activity at the Sundre Airport and within the surrounding area as Alberta Forestry continues to use the airport as a staging and operational base for wildfire suppression efforts. Increased helicopter, fixed-wing aircraft, emergency personnel, and support activity may continue throughout the community as crews work toward assessing and bringing the wildfire under control.
Residents should not be alarmed by the declaration of a State of Local Emergency in Clearwater County; however, they are encouraged to stay informed through official channels in the event conditions change or additional actions become necessary.
As with any emergency situation, residents are encouraged to ensure they are personally prepared by maintaining a 72-hour emergency kit and considering household evacuation plans should conditions change unexpectedly
