In the Sundre area the weather trends in the winter and early spring swing drastically from freeze to thaw conditions. This trend causes melted snow and ice to seep into cracks in paved services causing break up of asphalt when it freezes and expands. Ground frost keeps the water in the surface zone and during the spring, melted snow drains into these broken areas creating more break up of the areas.
Spring repairs of these pot holes are subject to dry conditions for repair in order for the repair material to set and be compacted. The Town of Sundre has identified several street surfaces to be repaired or replaced in conjunction with underground piping replacements in our capital and operating budget. The roads department will be maintaining the potholes throughout the remainder of 2017. If you notice a pothole of concern please Report a Concern.
