Sundre Visitors > What to Do

Have you ever ridden a horse across a mountain ridge at sunset? Have you ever helped manoeuvre a rubber raft through the foaming white water of a wild river, while deer and moose browsed unconcerned on the shoreline? Do you know how it feels to hike through a sun-dappled forest, where the only distractions are the sounds of birdsong and the wind whispering through the trees? These are just some of the experiences residents of Sundre are able to explore in the vast natural area surrounding the town.

Snake Hill

For those who like to stay closer to home, the Town of Sundre offers many recreational opportunities for young and old alike, including an excellent walking trail system, which caters to all fitness levels. Our salt water indoor pool is popular through all seasons, and also houses a water slide, wading pool, and fitness facility for those seeking a more vigorous workout.

If you like to play ball, we have excellent ball diamonds available. We also have a tennis court and horseshoe pits. In the winter time, our arena and curling rink play host to some exciting action, as does the tobogganing/snow boarding venue on Snake Hill. Throughout the summer months the curling rink is the home of the weekly Farmer's Market, held every Friday. Plans are in place to construct a skate board park in the near future and several other youth-oriented programs are offered, including movie nights, talent shows and "Survivor" type adventures.

Do you like to golf? There are several very fine golf courses and a driving range very close to town. And, here's a not-so-well-kept secret: Sundre is a fisherman's dream come true! Many a tall fishing tale has originated right in town along the banks of our river and creeks.

Sundre has an active gardening club and an art club, along with a variety of local craft and hobby groups. Continuing Education courses are available for residents wishing to learn new skills.

For those who enjoy a little culture in their diet, the Sundre Arts Centre is not only the home to our local thespian group, the Peak Theatre Players, but also offers concerts and events featuring national and international artists at various times during the year.

The Sundre Museum, reputedly one of the best to be found in any small town, has impressive displays along with attractive grounds and gardens. Organizers put on several special events throughout the year. In the near future, the Sundre Museum will be opening its brand new world wildlife display centre.

...And if all you want to do is sit in the shade of a big old spruce tree and have a good read, the Sundre Library has an excellent selection of books for every taste.

Whatever your age, interests, or abilities, there is something fun for you to do in Sundre and area!
