Shops & Services

Florists, hair salons and barber shops, hardware stores, jewellery and fashion establishments, unique gift shops, and two fully- stocked pharmacies — Sundre has it all! Three full-service banks are conveniently located in, along with several accounting offices, investment services, and legal offices. The centrally-located post office has mail boxes available and a complete range of services to meet your needs.

Restaurants

A wide choice of restaurants and coffee shops offers residents an excellent and varied choice of service and cuisine. Several taverns feature regular entertainment.

Emergency Services

Police, ambulance and fire department services are all located within the community. Sundre has a fully-equipped hospital, which includes emergency services and a long term care facility, two medical clinics, a dental office, and a denture clinic. There are two optometrist offices and several massage, chiropractic, and physiotherapy centres.

A community health centre offers a full line of services for new parents and babies, people with disabilities, and seniors. Mental health services are also available through the centre. Other social services are available through Sundre Family & Community Support Services and Greenwood Neighbourhood Place.

Education & Children

There are excellent education facilities available at the Sundre High School (grades 9 to 12), River Valley School (kindergarten to grade 8), and the Community Learning Centre, which offers an alternative learning environment.

Day-care and playschool are available for pre-schoolers. Also, many after school activities are available for children, ranging from dance and music to sports and movie nights.

Summer camps abound in the Sundre area, and a summer fun program is held during July and August each year to provide adventure and interesting activities for children aged 6 to 14.

Senior Services

Seniors are considered special residents of Sundre and their changing needs have been provided for. Mountain View Seniors Housing offers a selection of housing options: Wild Rose Court, Hagen Manor and Pioneer Place are all ground- level apartment buildings and Foothills Lodge is an assisted living facility. Private apartments specifically for seniors are also available to rent or purchase. Seniors' activities and other community events are held on a regular basis at the Sundre West Country Centre.

Churches

Churches in and around town have regular services and several of them offer youth activities. There are church-sponsored events year-round.

Events

Sundre hosts an annual professional rodeo and parade, as well as both a summer and a winter festival. The local museum also provides special entertainment and events throughout the year.

Recreation

Recreation facilities in Sundre include an indoor swimming pool/fitness centre , arena, curling rink, baseball diamonds, horse-shoe pits, as well as several golf courses close by. There are also walking trails, tennis courts, fishing and other river activities. Some excellent campgrounds are located close by, including Greenwood Park, which is situated right in town on the banks of the Red Deer River.

Recycling

The Town of Sundre is an environmentally-conscious community and an active participant in recycling and composting programs. We encourage new residents to stop in at the Town Office for more information regarding these projects, or to address any other questions they may have.
