In the winter of 2003, the Town of Sundre and Chinook's Edge School Division proposed to Mountain View County (MVC) that a facility housing different community organizations utilize the building that once held the old River Valley School. Since the old school was no longer being used, it was viewed as an exciting opportunity for the community. In the fall of 2004, MVC supported the idea and plans were quickly put in place for the facility.
The finished facility was funded jointly by the Province of Alberta Lottery Fund, MVC, the Town of Sundre, and MVC Resident Fundraisers. It stands as an exceptional example of what a partnership between the Province of Alberta, the Town of Sundre, MVC, and Chinook's Edge School Division can build.
The Sundre Community Centre is the home of the Sundre Municipal Library, the Sundre Playschool, and Greenwood Neighborhood Place.
In addition, the Town of Sundre manages a shared community space for a Gymnasium / Auditorium and a Conference Room.
