Parks and Green Space Assistant

The Community Services Department is seeking individuals to be responsible for assisting in the areas of turf maintenance, noxious and invasive weed control and maintenance, horticulture care and maintenance, arboriculture care and maintenance, facility (both indoor and outdoor) care and maintenance. 

Operations Assistant

Operations Department is seeking an ambitious individual interested in a variety of general labour projects and street maintenance including sign installation, pothole patching and painting for summer temporary employment.  This position will include and assisting the Water and Wastewater, Roads and Gas departments as required.  The right person will likes to work with the public and has a good mechanical aptitude.

These positions are based on a 40-hour week commencing May 1, 2017 (negotiable) for a period of 16 weeks.

Applicants must be a current and returning student to post secondary or high school, must be 16 years or older before commencing employment, have a Social Insurance Number, clean criminal records check and hold a clean valid driver’s license.

Candidates must supply their own CSA steel toe boots, all other safety gear will be provided.  A driver’s abstract and Criminal Record check will be conducted prior to hiring.

Candidates must show strong and positive communication and customer relation skills, be prepared for occasional weekend work, have the ability to work in extreme weather and repetitive conditions.

All positions are contingent upon receiving the Summer Temporary Employment Program funding from the Alberta Government.

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)

Reporting to the Mayor and Council, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is responsible for guiding the day-to-day affairs of the Town as outlined in the Municipal Government Act (MGA), Town by-laws, and policies as set by Council.

In addition, the CAO will also:

  •   Provide effective advice and support to the Mayor and Council in developing, implementing, and executing policies and strategies.

  •   Deliver solid leadership to the senior management team and staff of the Town.

  •   Promote opportunities to the public for public participation on civic issues.

  •   Ensure that Town staff are committed to providing the highest level of service to the general public
            and the business community through clear and transparent communication.

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  •   A post-secondary education, or a combination of relevant training and senior leadership experience.

  •   A demonstrated track record of strong leadership and direction with prior senior management experience.

  •   The ability to work effectively with elected officials, community volunteers, businesses, Boards and committees, and the general public.

  •   A thorough understanding of the financial and budgeting process.

  •   Appreciation of the legislative process and knowledge of the Alberta Municipal Government Act.

  •   Proven experience in strategic planning, organizational development and achieving results in

    building team relations.

  •   Experience in implementing development plans, capital works and infrastructure improvement

    programs.

2017 Greenwood Campground Host/Caretaker 

The Town of Sundre is currently accepting applications for a Host/Caretaker for the Greenwood Campground. This position will be on contract from May 1st to September 30, 2017 and oversee the overall health and maintenance of the campground while providing excellent customer service. A free full service campsite is provided, but the Host must provide their own camping unit. Host is required to reside on-site for the operating season. 

Although campsite bookings will begin in January 1, 2017 (email basis only), a cell phone will be provided to the Host to receive and confirm reservation requests for the Host Contract Season. 

Greenwood campground is located along the Red Deer River, downtown Sundre with 32 sites: Host 1 site, Full Service 2 sites, Power Only 17 sites, Unserviced 12 sites, picnic table per site, fire pit per site, bathrooms (flush/showers & outhouse), central pressure water supply, cookhouse, firewood, sani- station, playground, day use area. 

Host must enjoy meeting people and making them feel at home in the park. Candidates must be responsible, physically fit, possess good communication skills, good manners and helpful attitude. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Daily washhouse cleaning 

  • Daily camp kitchen cleaning 

  • Site Cleanup (Parking pad, Landscape, Fire Pit) 

  • Garbage and Recycling care 

  • Ground Maintenance (Whipping) 

  • Stacking Wood (Ability to carry 10 lbs. & stack 2 cords of wood at a time) 

  • Manage phone and provide call back within 24 hours 

  • Taking reservations, checking guest in, taking payment 

  • Campground Security and Vandalism Control

Required Qualifications:

  • Hold a valid drivers license 

  • First Aid

Preferred Qualifications:

      • Previous experience in campground management and maintenance 

      • W.H.M.I.S
