Planning and Development Manager

Contract Position

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the CAO, the Manager of Planning and Development performs a variety of community development and planning functions including the timely, effective, and accurate evaluation of land use, planning, development permit, variance, development agreement, area structure plan, outline plans, and land use bylaw amendments.  Responsible for providing interpretation, explanation and guidance to members of the general public, developers and landowners, Administration, Council and related Boards on all land use planning matters.  Duties shall be performed in accordance with applicable provincial regulations, statutory and non-statutory regulations.

The Ideal Candidate:

You are a Registered professional and have at minimum five (5) years of direct management experience in a senior planning capacity in a municipal environment. You have the ability to develop creative solutions be a progressive thinker and support Town Council in an efficient and strategic manor for the Town of Sundre.   You understand the importance of building and maintaining rapport with a variety of stakeholders.  Strong communication and written skills and a great deal of diplomacy are some of your key assets.

This role will provide the greatest satisfaction to a detail-oriented senior municipal professional that thrives in a fast-paced environment, involving a high level of departmental interaction and understands the complexities of local government. The ideal candidate will have an outstanding attitude and interpersonal skills, be highly organized and technologically savvy, able to work in an environment with changing priorities and constant interruptions, respond to new challenges and a high volume of work while prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines and handling multiple concurrent tasks.

This is a contract position position that offers competitive compensation.  The current work schedule is based on 35 hours bi-weekly, including some evenings to attend selected council meetings.

Special Project Administrator

1.5 -2 year Full-Time Term Position

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the CAO, the Special Projects Administrator provides a broad range of senior administrative and research support to multiple departments; Development, Economic Development, Administration and Operations with varying complexity. The position requires the incumbent to work independently exercising judgment and initiative. Thorough knowledge of local government office procedures, bylaw and policy preparation will be an asset.

The Ideal Candidate:

This full-time term position that begins as soon as possible.   We offer a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. 

Hours of work are 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 A.M to 4:00 P.M.

 Returning Officer 2017

(Contract Position)

The Opportunity:

The Town is currently seeking a Contract Returning Officer (Elections Coordinator) to administer the 2017 municipal election process and serve at the Returning Officer for the Town of Sundre.

The Ideal Candidate:

Key responsibilities include serving as primary contact for the 2017 election, collecting nomination papers, hiring and training municipal election workers, ordering necessary supplies, attending at an incapacitated voter’s home or at institutional voting stations to administer their vote, overseeing the advance voting polls, overseeing the Election Day, compiling results, and ensuring compliance with all regulations and requirements (including making declarations) of the Local Authorities Election Act.
